Wieland, Joyce
(6/30/1931 Toronto-1998) (Canada)
   Painter. Studied at the Central Technical School in Toronto. Love and female desire are common themes in her art, as is disaster. She has said that she paints sailing ships, sinking ships, and penises as objects obeying laws of time and motion. In the 1960s many of her paintings were based on female sexual imagery.
